I don't know what drove me to such a suicidally dangerous idea, but... With nothing else to do I went to O'briens... I'm not a servant anymore, at least I thought I wasn't, but I'll get to that, so I was expecting trouble. The place was calm. No one recognized me. I guess when you're most notable feature is not having a face it's pretty easy to be unrecognizable by having one. I went up to the bar. There was a new bartender again. That in itself isn't weird. The Bartender at O'briens changes frequently for various reasons. He greeted me by name and offered me a beer and a handshake. His hand was wearing a glove... I took his hand and felt it the exact same texture as last time. It was him. He smiled, aware of my recognition and spoke.
"Name's Jack. If you want to know more about me ask around. You're sure to find something. You're not here to learn about me, however,"
"I didn't come here for anything..." I countered and he grinned.
"Didn't you? Well then consider yourself lucky, cause I'm going to answer the question you didn't come here to ask. What did I do to you? It's simple. I removed the birds and returned you to a human form, but I'm not stupid or cruel... Well Okay maybe cruel, but regardless, I knew The Convocation would simply track you down and kill you and that would make my help completely pointless. So I did a bit more. I turned you into a different kind of servant. One that doesn't exist anymore and one that The Birds can't find," he explained.
I felt the answer before he said it and I wanted to scream.
He looked at my face and grinned again, "That's right. I made you one of The Children of Nothing. The Birds can't see you or find you and with the rest of them wiped out you don't have to worry about being beholden to anyone. The Quiet never really talked to them anyway. All those voices The girl and The silent guy heard came from something else, but I don't like to spoil surprises and that one will be coming back for you,"
At the time I took in the words without really thinking about them. I am a member of The Children of Nothing now... That's why The Birds couldn't see me. Which meant... They still existed. My vow wasn't complete in order to complete my vow I had to die...
He was grinning at me again. He knew. He knew exactly what he did that rat bastard. He opened his mouth and I shoved my machete through it and out the back of his skull. He just stared at me raised his hand and waggled a finger in front of my face judgmentally before suddenly vanishing.
So, this is the worst thing that could possibly happen to me. I want to kill myself, but I don't. I'm too awesome to die, but I have to die. Damn you, Jack!
Oh I left shortly after. No one cared much that I had stabbed The Bartender. That kind of thing happens a lot. There were two people in the bar who kept giving me weird looks though.
If they're nests or something I'll probably have to kill some more people soon. That will be fun.
Oh, how unfortunate for you...
